The Town of Mississippi Mills have four museums that tell different stories about the area's history.
The North Lanark Regional Museum in Appleton provides regional artifacts and stories regarding the hsitory of the North Lanark area. It has a geneology section and the volunteers at the museum are delighted to answer questions regarding our past.ᅠ
The Mississippi Valley Textile Museum is housed in an historic textile building. Come and learn about he history of the textile industry in Mississippi Mills and the Valley. The Textile Museum typically has one to two featured exhibits running.
The Mill of Kintail is nestled in the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority area and is surrounded by country side. The Mill of Kintail features the historic summer home of R. Tait McKenzie, both a doctor and sculptor of international stature.
The James Naismith Museum is undergoing a transition at this time. Benny's Corners, just outside Almonte, is the birth place of James Naismith, the founder of Basketball. Examples fromᅠthe full collection of the Naismith Hall of Fame reside on the secon floor of the Almonte Old Town Hall. James Naismith, the man and his times, is presently finding a new home and expects to have the museum functioning very soon.

Mill of Kintail Conservation Area
The R. Tait McKenzie Memorial Museum located on the Mill of Kintail Conservation Area sits nestled along the banks of the Indian River. Located in a converted 1830s grist mill, the Museum showcases the life of Dr. Robert Tait McKenzie who was one of Canadas best known artists of his time and used the converted Mill as his summer home and sculpting studio. He has been recognized as a National Historic Figure.

The Mississippi Valley Textile Museum is located in the former Annex of the Rosamond Woolen Mill, a National Historic Site of Canada. Built in 1867 the mill was at one time the largest woolen mill in Canada.

Born in Ramsay Township just outside of Almonte, Dr. James Naismith is best known world wide as the inventor of basketball. He also led an exemplary life, following the values he held dear. He was an educator and leader, dedicated to developing character through sport, and devoted to serving society. His gift of basketball is played in over 200 countries around the world.
The museum’s new location is in the lower level of The R. Tait McKenzie Memorial Museum situated on The Mill of Kintail Conservation Area.
