Battle of the Atlantic Ceremony – Sunday, May 26, 2024

The Royal Canadian Legion Almonte Branch 240 will host their annual Battle of the Atlantic ceremony on Sunday, May 26.

A parade will form at the Almonte Legion (100 Bridge Street) at 1:30 p.m. The Legion Colour Party will lead the parade to the water side of the Mississippi River at 2 p.m., where the ceremony will take place.

A reception will follow at the Almonte Legion.

The Battle of the Atlantic (1939-1945) was the longest continuous military engagement of the Second World War. More than 70,000 sailors, airmen and members of the merchant navy lost their lives, including approximately 4,400 Canadians, while trying to maintain shipping routes linking North America with Europe.
