CDSBEO Receives Capital Funding for Classroom Additions at Three Schools

Press Release – Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario

The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario will receive funding to proceed with construction projects at three schools, delivering much-needed additional classroom space for students in the growing communities of Carleton Place and Russell.

Funding for the three school additions is being provided through the Ministry of Education’s Capital Priorities Program. Details for each project are as follows:

  • Notre Dame Catholic High School in Carleton Place (grades 7-12) will receive $4.34M for a ten-classroom addition to the existing school facility which will address accommodations for 230 permanent pupil places.
  • St. Gregory Catholic School in Carleton Place (grades K-3) will receive $4.59M for a seven-classroom addition and internal renovations to the existing school facility, which will address accommodations for 164 new permanent pupil places.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic High School in Russell (grades 7-12) will receive $5.34M for a ten-classroom addition to the existing school facility which will address accommodations for 230 permanent pupil places.

“Russell and Carleton Place are indeed growing communities, and the addition of permanent classrooms is an essential part of meeting the learning needs of the many families in these areas. We appreciate accessible and modern facilities, and we are excited to be able to expand our schools, support the varied learning requirements of our students, and continue to grow Catholic school communities,” noted CDSBEO Director of Education Laurie Corrigan.

Sue Wilson, Chair of the Board, expressed her gratitude for the funding.

“These three school additions will be tremendously valuable for the students and families served by our schools. We are extremely grateful to the Ministry of Education for funding three projects for our Board. These new additions will enhance learning opportunities for the students entrusted in our care, so that they have the tools to continue to succeed on their learning journey.”

“As a father, I understand that the local school really is the heart of the community, and that it’s so important for young families to have a school that’s close to home,” said Todd Smith, Minister of Education. “Our government is listening to hard-working moms and dads, which is why we are more than doubling our funding to $1.3 billion for the largest one-year investment in school building in Ontario history. We are delivering the modern, state-of-the-art schools that students, families and communities deserve. I want to reiterate my thanks to MPP Stéphane Sarrazin and MPP John Jordan for their relentless advocacy for local families.”

The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario operates 39 elementary and 10 secondary schools across eight counties. The CDSBEO offers excellence in Catholic education through provincial-leading programs to approximately 13,600 students.
