Cell Tower Construction at Almonte Fairgrounds
Construction of a cell tower at the Almonte Fairgrounds (195 Water Street) is anticipated to begin on March 24, 2025.
The project includes a 45-metre steel monopole tower with radio equipment shelter, fronting on Monk Street, between two outbuildings on the fairgrounds property.
It is important to appreciate that this is not a municipal project, nor does the Municipality have control over the approval of the location of cell towers. The matter came before Council back in 2019. While the Municipality receives and reviews proposals for cell towers and may request conditions to be imposed, it does not approve or refuse these developments. In Canada, all antenna systems, including telecommunications towers, are regulated by the federal government, specifically, the Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada.
The North Lanark Agricultural Society (NLAS) signed a lease with Rogers Communications Inc. in 2019. Since that time, the lease was sold to Redwood Infrastructure LP, who are constructing the tower this spring.
