From the Office of the Mayor - Charles Gillan

It is with sadness that I share that former Reeve of Pakenham Charles (Charlie) Gillan died last night at age 95.  Mr. Gillan proudly served as Warden of Lanark County in 1982 and is remembered as a great and fair Reeve for the former Township of Pakenham and as a strong and vocal County Warden.

Through his service on Council and as a long-standing community member, Mr. Gillan was a promoter and catalyst for many projects in the Pakenham area including the Stewart Community Centre, Linda Lowe Daycare, initial Five Arches project, early stages of the Ski Hill and the restoration of the Five Span Bridge.  Mr. Gillan also served on the Almonte General Hospital Board and was instrumental in having Pakenham Public School built in 1968.

As a former member of Council, flags at all municipal buildings have been lowered in his honour.  Please keep Charlie’s wife Beth and the Gillan family in your thoughts and prayers during this solemn time.
