Impact of Covid-19 wave on Municipal Departments

Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit (LGLDHU) announced a recent wave of confirmed community spread Covid-19 cases in our region, along with at least one confirmed case of a virus variant.

The Health Unit has indicated that the COVID-19 infections started with exposure to the COVID-19 virus at a social gathering. The virus has now spread into businesses, recreational sports teams, families and childcare – both within and outside of our region.

Since this announcement Mississippi Mills has had multiple Municipal departments impacted, with staff receiving notice of possible exposure. Our District Health Unit considers the exposure low risk due to policies and guidelines already in place in our facilities. The Municipality continues to take direction from Public Health as we navigate this situation.

Impacted municipal staff are following Public Health directives with respect to quarantining, testing and monitoring. Any Municipal staff or members of the public who were identified through contact tracing have already been contacted directly by LGLDHU. To date, we have only one confirmed positive case among staff. Based on the circumstances this is not considered a risk to the public, this individual has not been involved in delivering public facing services.

More than ever, it is critically important that we all do our part to reduce the spread. Please follow all public health guidelines including social distancing, sanitizing and wearing your masks.  Because the virus spreads so easily, the LGLDHU continues to encourage people to stay home as much as possible and to limit contact to your own household and to stay local, avoiding travel outside the region.
