In Memory of Garry Dalgity

FROM THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR

December 27, 2023

It is with deep sadness that I share the passing of former Almonte Councillor Garry Dalgity. Mr. Dalgity passed away on Tuesday, December 26th with family by his side.

Having served over 35 years as a municipal councillor, Mr. Dalgity was well known and respected for his leadership. He was first elected to the Town of Almonte Council as a Councillor in 1975, a position he successfully held until 1997. Following amalgamation in 1998, he was a member of Mississippi Mills Council from 1998-2003 and 2006-2014.

Mr. Dalgity was also deeply involved in the life and community of Almonte.  He was a dedicated volunteer with many local boards and organizations, including the Almonte General Hospital Board, the former Mill Community Support Corporation, United Way of Lanark County and two terms as Almonte Civitan Club president. He was also committed to local recreation programs, spending years coaching softball, hockey and ladies broomball.

As a former member of Council, flags at all municipal facilities have been lowered in Mr. Dalgity’s honour. Please keep the Dalgity family in your thoughts and prayers during this solemn time.

Mayor Christa Lowry
