In Memory of Jim Lowry

FROM THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR

It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of Former Ramsay Councillor, Jim Lowry. Jim passed away on Saturday, August 12th with family by his side.

Jim followed his father, Hollie Lowry, into public service and was a member of Council for 29 years. He served on Ramsay Township Council as Councillor, Deputy Reeve and Reeve and also sat at the Lanark County table for 9 years. After amalgamation, Jim was a member of Mississippi Mills Council until 2010.  Jim was my great uncle, whose steps I have followed into public service.

A hardworking farmer, a teller of stories, a keeper of history, and a quick-witted   gentleman, Jim spent his life committed to serving his community. He was a dedicated volunteer with many local organizations including the Almonte General Hospital Board, the North Lanark Agricultural Society, the North Lanark Historical Society, the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum, and the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority, to name only a few. He was also a founding director of the both the Dr. James Naismith Foundation and the Lanark County Plowmen’s Association.

In 2015, Jim was recognized by the Province of Ontario and the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasures of Ontario and presented with an Accessibility Champion Award in recognition of his commitment to accessibility and inclusion in our community.

As a former member of Council, flags at all municipal buildings have been lowered in Jim’s honour. Please keep his wife Sandra, children Bonnie and Neil, and the family in your thoughts and prayers during this solemn time.
