In Memory of Thora Pugh

In Memory of Thora Pugh

It is with sadness that I share the passing of former Pakenham Councillor, Thora Pugh. Thora passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 15th, with her daughter by her side.

Thora was a pioneer. She was the first woman to be elected to Pakenham Council in 1982, and in 1988, became the first woman to serve as Deputy Reeve.   She was also on Lanark County Council.

Thora was an active community contributor supporting causes near and dear to her, including serving as President of the local Canadian Cancer Society branch. She was passionate about theatre and music and was a fixture on the local stage directing several plays and musical events.  For over 20 years, she and her husband Bob ran Stonebridge in Pakenham, a popular Bed & Breakfast and Tea Room.

As a former Member of Council, flags at all municipal buildings have been lowered in Thora’s honour.  Please keep the Pugh family in your thoughts and prayers during this solemn time.
