Latest Update on 38 Main Street Road Closure - December 20, 2023

On Friday, November 24, the Municipality of Mississippi Mills initiated a full closure of Union Street and the adjacent block of Main Street, relating to safety concerns with the building at 38 Main Street East in Almonte (Dungarvon Building).

Since that time, the Municipality has been working with the property owner on next steps to stabilize the building. A new order was issued Wednesday, December 20 by the Municipality’s Chief Building Official. This order requires the property owner to provide a plan, prepared by a Professional Engineer, along with a number of milestones that the property owner needs to meet. The intent of the order is to require the stabilization of the belltower as well as reduce the area of the road closure as much as possible.
