New Commercial Grain Facility Coming to Mississippi Mills
Mississippi Mills Council Members and Staff were invited to be part of an exciting funding announcement by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario on Friday, June 28 at Ottawa Valley Grain Products in Carp.
Ottawa Valley Grain Products is one of eight food manufacturers sharing $18.4 million in funding to expand operations and production across southern Ontario. This fourth-generation grain mill, owned and operated by the Stewart family, received a $3 million repayable investment to modernize equipment at their Carp facility and establish a new commercial grain mill in Mississippi Mills.
Mississippi Mills Council approved a Zoning By-law Amendment for the new $11.3 million commercial grain mill in June.
“Council is thrilled Ottawa Valley Grain Products have chosen Mississippi Mills as the site for their new expanded and modernized grain processing operation,” said Mayor Christa Lowry. “Agriculture is one of the leading economic drivers in our Municipality and contributes significantly to our local economy and the roots of our community. This initiative will build on that strong agricultural foundation.”
“We look forward to working with the Stewart family on this project,” she added.
Ottawa Valley Grain Products has a history dating back to 1929 and was incorporated in 1999. This new operation will allow the company to take its capacity to new heights, diversify products and better support farmers locally and across Canada.
“Building this new facility marks a significant milestone for Ottawa Valley Grain Products and the entire local grain industry,” stated Jennifer Stewart, President, Ottawa Valley Grain Products. “This investment not only supports our growth but also strengthens the economic fabric of our agricultural community. We are committed to providing high-quality products while fostering sustainable practices in the Ottawa Valley.”
“A thriving agricultural and agri-food sector has shaped the brand of Mississippi Mills. We’re very proud to support and promote our locally grown and/or processed products,” said Tiffany MacLaren, Manager of Community and Economic Development. “This investment by Ottawa Valley Grain Products and the Government of Canada will lead to quality jobs and promote economic opportunities that will ensure this essential sector is positioned for long-term growth in our Municipality. We are eager to welcome and support the Ottawa Valley Grain Products team as their vision becomes a reality.”
