Nominations Open for Long-Standing Business Appreciation Night October 24

Mississippi Mills is a thriving community of small business owners and family-run businesses. These entrepreneurs are the engine of our local economy and we want to show them they’re appreciated!

In celebration of National Small Business Week, the Municipality of Mississippi Mills is recognizing local small business owners who have achieved 10, 25, 35, 50 and 65+ years in business in our Municipality. Our Long-Standing Business Appreciation Night will be held Thursday, October 24, beginning at 7 p.m., at the Almonte Old Town Hall.

“We are fortunate to have a deep history of established, successful small businesses in Mississippi Mills. As a welcoming community, it is also so rewarding to see newcomers choose Mississippi Mills to build or grow their businesses,” stated Mayor Christa Lowry. “Through their investment and ingenuity, these businesses impact our local economy and our Municipality for the better.”

“The past few years have been challenging and staying in business through the pandemic is an accomplishment,” she continued. “For both of these reasons, we’ve added the new 10-year category to our recognition event. Reaching the 10-year milestone is something we want to celebrate together!”

Now, we need the community’s help! Do you know of a local businessperson who meets these milestones? Email your suggestions by Wednesday, October 2 to Bonnie Ostrom at bostrom@mississippimills.ca. Feel free to nominate your own business. Please include the following details:

• Name of business

• Name of owner

• Number of years the current owner has been in business (same owner or family)

• Address of business

• Quick description of the business and fun anecdotes you’d like to share!

Businesses must be located within the boundary of Mississippi Mills and currently in operation. This event honours long-standing business owners or multi-generational businesses in our community, not business establishments (which may have been owned by a succession of owners). New business owners who have purchased a local business and reached a 10-year or higher milestone can be recognized in the category that matches their ownership tenure.

Mississippi Mills has many seasoned business owners and we realize it isn’t possible to recognize them all at one event. For this reason, the Municipality keeps a list of names and will honour a maximum of 40 each (or 10 in any one category) per year.

Since 2016, we have recognized 65 long-standing Mississippi Mills businesses and we look forward to adding to the list this year. Click here to view the full list of past recipients.
