Nominations Open for The Order of Ontario

The Order of Ontario is the province’s highest civilian honour. An Ontarian who has shown the highest level of excellence and achievement in any field, and whose impact has left a lasting legacy in our province, in our country and around the world is eligible to be nominated.

The deadline for nomination for the 2024 awards is March 31, 2024.

ELIGIBILITY

The person you nominate must be:

  • A long-term or former resident of Ontario (nominee does not need to be a Canadian citizen)

  • Someone whose career, in any field, has had a major impact or influence on the province, Canada or abroad

Those who cannot be nominated:

  • Yourself

  • Someone who has passed away

  • An elected federal, provincial or municipal politician currently in office

  • A sitting judge of any court

  • One of Ontario’s Legislative Officers while in office (Auditor General, Ombudsman, Integrity Commissioner, etc.)

  • A volunteer

  • Someone for acts of bravery 

NOMINATION REQUIREMENTS

Nomination packages must include:

  • A brief summary of why you believe the nominee is worthy of nomination and how long you have known them

  • Detailed description of the nominee and their achievements (must include impact of the achievements on the province or beyond)

  • A minimum of two signed testimonial letters (from two different people who are not the nominator, who should know the nominee and be able to explain their value and impact)

  • The testimonial writers’ first and last name, email address and phone number

Supplementary testimonials, publications, as well as media stories and news articles can also be included to provide more insight into your nominee’s accomplishments.

HOW TO NOMINATE SOMEONE

Visit the Ontario Honours and Awards Portal (https://www.ohap.haacms.mtc.gov.on.ca/en/signin) and create an account. All nominations must be submitted through this portal.

The Order of Canada honourees are reviewed by an independent advisory council and will make recommendations to the Lieutenant Governor in Council of Ontario.
