In 1998, the Government of Canada officially proclaimed the last Sunday in September of every year as Police and Peace Officers' National Memorial Day.

Flags at all municipal locations will be lowered to half mast on Sunday, September 29, to commemorate Police and Peace Officers' National Memorial Day, express appreciation for the dedication of police and peace officers who keep our communities safe and to remember the brave men and women who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
