Sivarulrasa Gallery Unveils Two Exhibitions in April
Press Release – Sivarulrasa Gallery
WENDY ROBERTSON & JANE IRWIN: LANDMARKS, April 5 – May 9, 2025
LOUIS THÉRIAULT: REPÈRES, April 5 – May 9, 2025
Combined Vernissage/Artists Reception: Saturday, April 5, 2-4 pm
From April 5 to May 9, Sivarulrasa Gallery is delighted to present two new exhibitions, each exploring the Canadian landscape through a contemporary lens.
Louis Thériault: Repères will run in Gallery III. Born in New Brunswick, Louis Thériault’s paintings are inspired by the places where he has lived: the Maritime Provinces in his early years, and the Outaouais region in Western Quebec where he currently resides.
In this new body of work, the artist explores the interplay of place and time.
“My works tell stories and become for me landmarks in time”, he says. “My view of the environment is influenced by current events and the constantly evolving world order.”
Louis Thériault began his studies in visual communication at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, but reoriented his training toward applied science, earning a Bachelor of Applied Science (Industrial Engineering) in 1983 at the Université de Moncton, New Brunswick. Working meticulously with thin coats of acrylic, his subjects are drawn from childhood memories, historical contexts, or current events. With a Cartesian spirit, his compositions exploit perspective, geometry, and trigonometry.
His works have been exhibited in New Brunswick, Ontario, and Quebec and are held in the City of Ottawa Fine Art Collection and many private collections. He works from his studio in Gatineau, Quebec.
Landmarks, a duo exhibition featuring works by artists Wendy Robertson and Jane Irwin will run in Gallery I. Born and raised in the Toronto area, artist Wendy Robertson’s work is inspired by the natural environment and her intimate observations of nature. Her preferred locations are in Northern Ontario and Canada’s National Parks, with a focus on pristine natural habitats.
Working with oils and palette knives, her paintings of rock surfaces, shorelines, and landscapes convey both intimacy and grandeur. Wendy Robertson’s works have been exhibited in Ontario and Newfoundland and are held in many private collections. In 2022, Canada’s Official Residences Crown Collection acquired her work Jasper.
In contrast to Wendy Robertson’s works in oil, artist Jane Irwin presents several new works in watercolour, from her recent explorations in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and Ontario. Jane Irwin received her BFA in drawing and painting from Mount Allison University, New Brunswick, in 1977.
Drawing and painting have always been integral parts of her artistic explorations. Jane Irwin’s work has been exhibited in Ontario and New Brunswick and she has been awarded grants from the Ontario Arts Council. She currently works from her studio in Toronto.
Meet artists Louis Thériault, Wendy Robertson, and Jane Irwin at the Vernissage/Artists Reception on Saturday April 5, 2-4 pm.
