Special Air Quality Statement in Effect

Due to smoke plumes from the forest fire in the Calabogie area, Environment Canada has issued a Special Air Quality Statement for Mississippi Mills.

The migration of the smoke may cause poor air quality and reduced visibility in our area today and possibly into Tuesday, June 6.

Those who have lung or heart disease, are pregnant, children, older adults or people who work outdoors are at a higher risk of experiencing health effects due to smoke from the wildfire.

The Mississippi Mills Fire Department is advising residents to follow these guidelines:

  • Reduce your activity level if breathing becomes difficult and contact your health care provider if symptoms become severe.

  • If spending time outdoors, consider a respirator-type mask (N95 or equivalent), to help reduce exposure to smoke particles.

  • Drink plenty of water.

  • Take a break where you can find clean air.

  • Check in on those around you who may have health risks.

Reminder: Mississippi Mills remains under a Level 5 Total Burn Ban. Read more here: https://www.mississippimills.ca/en/news/total-burn-ban-in-effect-june-1-2023.aspx
