Statement from the Mayor - Fire in Pakenham
April 12, 2022
On behalf of the Municipality of Mississippi Mills, I would like to thank Acting Chief Williams and the Mississippi Mills Fire Department for their professional response to a major fire in Pakenham.
The MMFD responded to a structure fire in the Village of Pakenham at 10pm last night. Due to unsafe conditions, the structure had to be torn down to extinguish the fire. By 7:00 am this morning, the fire was out. All responders, the public and adjacent buildings were kept safe.
My thanks also extend to neighbouring fire services from Carleton Place, Lanark Highlands, Ottawa, Beckwith, BBD&E and Perth for their support through mutual aid, as well as the Lanark County OPP for their assistance.
After fighting fire all night, each volunteer firefighter had responsibilities to attend to this morning – their families, jobs, businesses, and other obligations. We are grateful that their selflessness and dedication never wavers in answering the call in our time of need.
Sincerely,
Christa Lowry
Mayor of Mississippi Mills
