LISE LEROUX: RECONNECTIONS, September 20 – October 25, 2024

JENNY MCMASTER: NO NEUTRAL GROUND, September 20 – October 25, 2024

Combined Vernissage/Artists Reception: Saturday, September 21, 2-4 p.m.

From September 20 to October 25, 2024, Sivarulrasa Gallery is pleased to present LISE LEROUX: RECONNECTIONS, a solo exhibition of new works by artist Lise Leroux. Based in Montérégie, Quebec, Lise Leroux earned her Bachelor of Fine Art degree at the Université du Québec à Montreal.  She has spent the last 10 years experimenting and developing her own techniques, perfecting her skills in painting, collage, printmaking, and drawing.

Born in a farming environment, she is inspired by the land, forests, and by her extended family background. Working between abstraction and figuration, her practice is introspective and intuitive. In this new body of work, her explorations take her back in time, reconnecting with her childhood years. “I associate some of my most heartwarming childhood memories with being outside”, she says. “Playing in mud, water, sand, grass… the better way to reconnect is for me to go back in time.”

Lise Leroux’s works have been exhibited in numerous group exhibitions, as well as solo shows in Montreal. She was twice awarded the Prix d’excellence by the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Mont-Saint-Hilaire (2022 and 2021). Her works are held in private collections in Canada and Europe.

JENNY MCMASTER: NO NEUTRAL GROUND will run in Gallery II. Based in Gatineau, Quebec, Jenny McMaster earned her Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Ottawa in 2021. Her practice includes sculptural works, fibres, encaustics, and performance art.

For the past ten years, her primary medium has been handmade paper. “I am fascinated by paper’s figurative and tactile capabilities as well as its identity as an organic substance with a natural and cultural history,” she says. “Paper, like the land, is not a neutral ground or void space.” This thought-provoking installation combines new works in paper from her New Arboreal series as well as older works from her Ruptured Planes series and her historical explorations of the Mississippi River and the Ottawa River.

Jenny McMaster is a former member of the Enriched Bread Artists Studios in Ottawa and a current member of Les Artistes de Cent Trente-Cinq in Gatineau. She has exhibited in many public gallery spaces including Espace Pierre-Debain (Gatineau), the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum (Almonte), City Hall Gallery (Ottawa), and the Ottawa Art Gallery. Her work is held in many private collections and the City of Ottawa Fine Art Collection.

Artists Lise Leroux and Jenny McMaster will be in attendance at the Artists Reception on Saturday September 21, 2-4 p.m.
