Dr. R. Tait McKenzie & Dr. James Naismith Museums
Step inside the historic gristmill turned museum at the Mill of Kintail Conservation Area and learn about two local historical figures who made significant impacts on the international stage; Dr. Robert Tait McKenzie was a physician, educator, sculptor, athlete and soldier. Dr. James Naismith, while a physical educator and physician himself, is perhaps best known for inventing the sport of basketball. The museum contains pictures and artifacts from Naismith's past and a brilliantly laid-out story about his life. The museum also contains the very rock of which Naismith played his childhood game "Duck on a Rock"- the game that set the foundation for the rules of basketball.
The Mill of Kintail is one of the Seven Wonders of Lanark County and hosts a variety of events and activities throughout the year. Walk the gorgeous trails on the 152 acres of land, visit the museum and immerse yourself in history and beauty! This museum cannot be missed!
