Elections Voter Information

You can vote in the municipal election if you are:

• a Canadian citizen; and
• at least 18 years old; and
• a resident of Mississippi Mills; or
• a non-resident of Mississippi Mills but you or your spouse own or rent property in the municipality; and
• are not prohibited from voting under any law.

You may only vote once in the municipal election regardless of how many properties you own or rent in the township. You must vote in the ward where you live or own property. An owner or tenant of non-residential property, or his or her spouse, is not eligible to vote for School Board Trustee.

Post-Secondary Students
There is a special rule for students who may be living away from home while they attend school. If you are a student and consider your "home" to be the place where you live when you are not attending school, which means you plan on returning there, then you are eligible to vote in both your 'home' municipality and in the municipality where you currently live while attending school.

In the 2022 election, members will be elected for a 4 year period beginning November 15, 2022 and ending November 14, 2026 for the following offices:

Municipal Council

• Mayor (one is elected by all electors of the municipality) 
• Deputy Mayor (one is elected by all electors of the municipality)
• Councillors (five to be elected by wards)

• • Almonte Ward (2 elected)
  • Ramsay Ward (2 elected)
  • Pakenham Ward (1 elected)

School Board Trustees

• English District School Board (one to be elected by public school electors of the municipality)
• English District Separate School Board (one to be elected by separate school electors of the municipality)
• French Language District School Board (one to be elected by French language separate school electors)
• French Language District Separate School Board (one to be elected by French language electors within the municipality)

Voting is easy and convenient with online and telephone voting! 

Your Voter Information Letter will arrive in the mail in October.

• Keep the Voter Information Letter in a safe place until voting opens on Monday, October 17, 2022 at 10:00am.
• You will have 8 days to vote, but do not wait until the last minute in case you have difficulty logging into the voting system.

• The Voter Information Letter contains your PIN number that will grant you access to the voting system.
• You have 2 ways to vote:
  1. Vote by phone (takes about 10-15 minutes)
     • Call the number provided in your Voter Information Letter
     • Enter your PIN
     • Enter your date of birth
       • If you receive an error after several attempts to login, this may be because your date of birth information is incorrect in our Voting System. Please visit one of the Voter Help Centres during hours of operation (see below) or call 613-256-2064 and press 9 to speak to elections staff to verify your details in our system.
     • Vote (use the ‘#’ sign to confirm your selections)
  2. Vote online (takes about 5 minutes) *EASIEST METHOD
     • Visit the voting website provided in your Voter Information Letter by entering the website address in your internet browser (do not search for the address - it will not work)
     • Enter your PIN
     • Enter your date of birth
     • Enter the Captcha challenge (distorted letters and numbers) as shown on the screen
       • If you receive an error after several attempts to login, this may be because your date of birth is incorrect in our Voting System. Please contact the Voter Help Centre/Municipal office and speak to elections staff to verify your details in our system.
     • Follow the prompts through all contests, and complete your ballot by pressing ‘Cast Ballot’

Want to ensure your vote counted?
You can try voting again with the same PIN, and if you are blocked from doing so, then you know your vote counted.

If you do not receive a Voter Information Letter in the mail or if you need assistance voting, visit one of the Voter Help Centres during their specified hours.
