What is the Future of Meat Processing for Mississippi Mills?

The Agriculture & Food Sector is a major contributor to the economy in Mississippi Mills and surrounding region. A shortage of abattoirs and meat processing plants continues to have a negative effect on farmers and presents a considerable obstacle for local food retailers and restaurants in their efforts to access locally sourced meat.

In view of these concerns, the Municipality of Mississippi Mills has taken proactive measures and collaborated with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) to undertake an Abattoir Feasibility Study. In early 2024 we engaged the services of Mallot Creek Group Inc, one of the leading consulting firms in Canada specializing in food, agriculture, and related industries.

To date Mallot Creek Group has consulted with close to 100 local livestock producers from across the region. We thank the agricultural community for their enthusiastic participation!

Please join us for a lunch presentation to hear findings and discuss next steps.
